Screaming in the basement? Whatever happened to good old recreational kinky fun around here? I like a little pain as much the next person but I still have fun with it...
Yes, I was screaming and crying in the basement over my husband knee. I hated to walk down two flights of stairs to the basement (I checked on the kids to make sure they were sleeping + plus at times he wanted me bring down a spanking tool-- extra hard to do-- know what was going to happen. Or sometimes he wanted me change clothes or wear sometime particular for my spanking. He was always waiting for me -- sitting in his spanking chair. It was pure pain for me in our basement. At other times I did get erotic spanking but they happened in our bedroom-- no crying or screaming there.
It makes me laugh thinking back. People these days just don't realise how good they have it. Finding spanking publications often meant a trip into London's seedy Soho district.
Meeting people was really hard. Contact magazines were the thing. You wrote letters and sent them to the publication, they then put them inside another envelope and forwarded them onto the advertisers.
If I remember correctly, you had to include money for each ad you were replying to! None of these scatter gun, copy and paste attempts.

Oh yes, I remember those. Not only spanking contact mags. Dateline, Matchmaker, plus many more. Met many ladies those days. Sadly not that many into spanking. ITC-mag.com was a paper edition back then. That's where I met the famous Miss J based in Croydon. Used to advertise regular on the ITC-mag site, but not seen her in the personals for some time now?
Mature lady. Probabely late sixties now? Been in the scene many years as a sub/dom. On a visit we would watch some VHS tapes to get in the mood. (anyone here remember VHS tapes?). Then upstairs for the action to begin.
Ah yes. My memories of finding spanking mags in the days before the internet are identical to those of many others who have posted here. First (for me) was Penthouse, back in spring or summer 1965, in the Letters pages. I still remember a sentence from one particularly graphic one, word for word: "Of course as a young wife of 25 I am regularly spanked on my bare bottom by my husband, who uses my hairbrush or a thin whippy cane". Wow, heady stuff.
Then I found Janus, and in due course I tracked down the Janus shop on Old Compton St. which became a temple of delight for me. My favourite Janus star was Paula Meadows (Lynn Paula Russell); her wonderful pencil drawings used to be a regular feature, and from time to time there were delicious spanking photos of Paula herself. She made several videos, but the only one I managed to see (originally 8mm film! Remember??) was called "You'll Love the Feeling". What a thrill that was.
I have managed to find some pics of Paula which you may see on some of my albums here on iPun.
Janus was the best of the mags in the same publishing stable, but other ones were equally good - Forum and ITC for example.
Somewhere I have maybe 6 or 8 "Good Old Fashioned Spanking Stories" magazines that came in an assuming brown paper wrapper.
Pre-Internet and pre-porn availability, I found mainstream ladies magazines to quite inspiring. Topping the list was the occasionally "borrowed" copy of one of mom's older issues of Cosmopolitan (the underwear ads were most capable of inspiring the imagination.

Yes, I seem to recall they often ran articles about spicing up your sex life with spanking being one of the 'kinkier' pursuits.

Indeed , the later issues did approach that (and many other) subject, however, the issues I could "find" weren't quite that advanced at that time. Of course, that time frame, even the JC Penney catalog would do as well.
Other than some forum letters in Penthouse, until the internet came along I assumed I was the only person in the world into spankings.

Hahaha, Janus magazine in the seventies. Then along came Blushes, Kane and a few more. I got my first proper spanking from Miss J in New Addington Croydon via ITC mag. ITC was a paper edition before the internet was widely available. Had to reply to her ad in the magazine via the the magazine. They would forward my letter to her. Sent a SAE for her reply that came soon after.
I used to buy Janus and ITC from a newspaper vendor (something don't see now) and was glued to them when got home. Probabely just like many of us older members here........
Or you'd send in a money order and hope to get your magazine in a month or less.

A money order? What's that? These magazines could be bought from most newsagents or the street vendor where I got my mags from

My ex husband was big into Penthouse variations and penthouse back in the 1980ties and 1990ties. After he had spanked me, he introduced me to these magazines . He was 10 years old than me and into spanking long before me. I assumed I was the only wife spanked until internet came along, I didn't believe him.
Janus, Kane, blushes, Sting, Swish I used to buy regular. ITC for contacts. Porn mags I remember were Whitehouse (named after Mary Whitehouse a politician who tried to ban the publication of porn mags and failed), Mayfair, Men Only, not forgetting Penthouse. Used to buy all these mags in a shop in Barking where I lived at the time that sold secondhand books and mags.
Then when the ex was out the house, get a stiffy reading them and have a you know what!!

Not where I lived. the news stands were all too proper.
For me the only source was "Penthouse Letters" for a long time. There was not something spanking related every month but when there was I was ecstatic. I walked into a seedy adult bookstore in Memphis and there was the first copy of "Spanked Hard" I had ever seen. Photos were expensive to publish then so there were not many. Mostly staged spanking photos and short silly articles but I loved it and went back for another issue whenever I could.
On a related note, I posted this excerpt earlier - as interesting as Penthouse Variations could be, you could always find a passage or two like this in a certain type of romance novels...

Blushing did anyone read the story/letter call Hanky Panky, in penthouse Variations

I seem to remember reading a letter by that name many years ago. Penthouse Letters usually included one or two spanking stories.
There was a story in Penthouse that I will never forget reading. A grown woman was spanked by her mother in front of her entire family. Wish I could find it today.
